snow and sleds and skates and forts and shovels and slides and some sunshine too.

i can clearly remember really enjoying winter as a child, and then, as i grew older, slowly beginning to dread it more and more each year. these kiddos have reintroduced me to the joys of winter, and given that the ground up here is usually covered in the white stuff six or so months of the year, that is a very good thing!
........................................
after totally dropping the ball with my monthly recaps in 2012, i've joined up with a lovely and talented group of ladies this year, in an effort to celebrate and document the everyday with our children (and to hopefully keep myself accountable, ha). the idea is that following my post, you'll click on through to the next photographers in the circle to see what ____ looks like to each of us.
and so, for my first post (i cheated and used images from the past couple of months), this what winter in edmonton looks like for us in pinksugarland :)
next up, go check out summer murdock | salt lake city area lifestyle photographer. i've just been introduced to her work and am so excited to see what she has to share this month!
and a quick side note: my personal blog, adventures in pinksugarland has been nominated over on apartment therapy for the best family & kids blog. if you'd like to add your vote, you can do that here. thank you!!
happy monday! xox, andrea
I am in love with your work! What a stunning post. :)

Your life is so perfect. It must be amazing to have such cooperative kiddos who actually enjoy the cold and snow.

That last image should be an album cover or in a magazine or something. It's so heart warming and happy.

I'm so over the moon you joined the group Andrea! I got to see the "other" side of winter in your neck of the woods. It's so cool they get to experience a true winter and do all that fun stuff that will be a part of a little tradition for them. The expressions of them sledding and bouncing around in the snow totally put a smile on my face and even though looking at your photos made me jump up and rap myself in a blanket, I wish I was there joining in on the fun.

thank you all :) i definitely feel fortunate that lila and cole enjoy the outdoors most of the time; but, oh how i wish our life was perfect -- especially this past month. with the loss of our nephew, we've put a lot of emphasis on celebrating these moments with our own kids (and on the days that one or both of them are not so pleased with being out there, there just typically isn't much documentation, as my hand are full of children, rather than cameras). :)

these feel like being transported to another world. a beautiful one. this is what winter used to feel like as a child, on the best days. you have magic eyes, i think. the way you freeze the motion, the energy, the wonder, and that golden light against the white, the closeness of your kids happy faces. all of this, just blows me away. like a breath of clean, cold, fresh air, and a giant dose of JOY. xo

Oh man, I love, love, love this. It's so true that the kiddos make you enjoy the things you once loathed. It's so nice to get outside!!
I totally know life is not perfect and I love how you 'focus on the good' and capture those memories. It makes me happy too, so keep doing it!!

Oh honey - maybe I should come hang with you in the winter. You look like you have a lot more fun than we do. I am SO not a winter girl. It does me in every year. Maybe I'll try to put on my big girl panties and get out there to enjoy! Maybe. :) xoxo

Andrea, these are just lovely...I can relate to the cold, snowy winter and not always loving all that white stuff (TONS of that where I live) but I feel like I there with you looking at these...and I'm super impressed with the igloo I know from experience what a lot of work that is! This group introduced me to your work (apparently I was the very last one to know about it) and I am in love!

Andrea, I am so excited that you've joined us this year! You have an incredible way of capturing the beauty of the every day, which is what we strive to do in this group. Growing up in the snow this post brings back so many memories. It almost makes me miss Michigan winters. Almost. And that slide! My kids would have the best time on that! You captured your stylish (seriously that bow tie kills me) kids beautifully and am looking forward to the rest of the year. :)
